Unlike it’s considerable army of users, Wii Fit is sitting still. The game has just enjoyed its sixth week at the top of the software charts, seeing off contenders like Godfather 2 and Wolverine without breaking a sweat.

There are obvious reasons for its success. The Wii console remains ludicrously popular, of course, and most of the in-house titles have done well. On top of that, in Wii Fit Nintendo has a game that offers both the hilarity of the system’s novelty interface and, ostensibly, a means of getting fitter. This is the motherlode. Most people hate exercising but know they ought to do it, Wii Fit offers the prospect of working out and having fun - at the same time. And what’s more it’s all in the warmth and comfort of your own living room.

Nintendo has revealed global lifetime sales figures for first party Wii and DS titles that shifted over a million copies during the year ended March 31.

Topping the list is Wii Sports with 45.7 million copies sold, including those bundled with hardware. That total likely puts the game’s sales ahead of those of Super Mario Bros, which has long been considered the bestselling game in history with over 40 million sales. The 1985 NES classic was also bundled with hardware.

When approached, however, Nintendo UK said that it couldn’t confirm that sales of Wii Sports had overtaken those of Super Mario Bros.

Elsewhere in the data, Nintendo said that Wii Play sales are just 200,000 copies shy of 23 million units, followed by Wii Fit on 18.2 million and Mario Kart Wii on 15.4 million.

Tip no. 1 - Ski Jump and higher and longer

Getting to 300 metres can be a difficult task but done the right it is quite easy.

You need to centre your balance on the blue dot for the ride down in order to maximize your speed. Then time your jump to begin as late as possible. If you jump immediately after entering the red zone jumps are much shorter, however if you wait too long, you will crash.

It does really matter if you are forward, backward or on the blue dot as long as you centre on the blue line. If you don;t bend your knees too much there is less fluctuation than when you straighten them out.

 

Tip no. 2 - Boxing clever

To get 300 on the rhythm boxing game you should really follow the on-screen tip and box to the beat. A bit like Joeboxers. Box on the beat and you will double the points you get. At the end of the game when you freestyle, keep one foot on the board  and go for small movements to make as many punches count as possible.

This increases the score a lot towards the end of the bout.

The first computer i ever had was an Oric 1, it came out in 1983, it was a present for

my 10th birthday. From then i have had many different systems and played hundreds

of games in the past 25 years. So i have made a list of my Top 5 games of all time.

 

1st Place      Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

2nd Place    Goldeneye 007

3rd Place     Street Fighter II

4th Place     Wonderboy in Monsterland

5th Place     Jet Set Willy

 

Most of you won’t remember these games but for those

who do, i hope you agree that these are classic games.

Let’s see, we’ve had SimCity, SimEarth, SimAnt, SimLife, SimFarm, SimTower, SimSafari, and a bunch more Sim games over the years. So what’s next? If you guessed SimContrabass Quartet, SimSylvester Stallone, or SimCrime of Passion you are incorrect. However, if you happened to say “Sim Animals” then take a moment to shake your own hand, sir or madam, because you are correct! The game, which was the first shown during last years EA E3 press conference looks to continue the remarkable success of the life-emulating series with a game devoted entirely to the animal world.

The world of Sim Animals will be, obviously, inhabited by furry creatures everywhere, and, as producers pointed out during the demo, some of them will be friendly, whereas others…not so much. During the trailer shown for the game, i was introduced to an adorable bear cub that was hanging out with his mom and dad. Soon, the cub met a friendly squirrel and the two started to frolic, like fake animals of entirely different species tend to do. Interrupting all the fun was a wicked-looking fox who looked an order of magnitude scarier than any fox we’ve ever seen.

Nintendo is to launch a television channel which is accessed through its Wii games console.

It will deliver video-on-demand to millions of households that have the device and an internet connection.

The plan is to generate more of its revenues from content - and the advertising that goes with it.

The service will be begin in Japan this spring but could be rolled out globally by the end of the year.

Some 40 million households throughout the world have a Wii and almost half (18m) are connected to the internet.
